A Trip To The Farmers Market

A Trip To The Farmers Market

The girls at Valere Rene  love shopping local at the Rogers Farmers Market. It may not be the size of farmers markets in Dallas or Oklahoma City, but it has amazing basics that leave us eating healthy all week long.

Our favorite items are things you can get at farmers markets in Fayetteville, AR and Little Rock, AR, too. We love farm fresh eggs because, with my teenage girls both at home this summer, I love to make breakfast every morning, and my oldest likes to bake. Since my family is trying to go gluten free with me, we have also been getting cauliflower; last week the head of cauliflower was bigger than my head! We eat them as cauliflower steaks and   mashed to substitute potatoes. It is nice to be able to access fresh vegetables in season in our town.

Our Jillian Tote has been my go-to farmers market produce bag this year. It is perfect because you can put your produce in the bag and use the pocket for keys and your phone!

The past few years, we have also come to love Vanzant's peaches. They are juicy and delicious every time. They are perfect on their own, like for a farmers market fruit basket or canned as I usually do (I make the best peach jam), or baked inside a peach cobbler topped with ice cream. You can't get these amazing peaches at farmers markets in Fort Worth or San Antonio, so it is special that we have Vanzant's here in Northwest Arkansas.

Try our favorite peach cobbler recipe:

Grannie Tink's Peach Cobbler

1 Cup Flour

2 tsp Baking Powder

1 Cup Sugar

1 Cup Milk

1 Cup Butter

2 Cups Sliced Peaches

1 Cup Water

1 Cup Sugar

  • Melt the butter in a 9x13 baking dish in a 350 degree preheated oven.
  • Prepare the batter by mixing the flour, baking powder, sugar and milk.
  • Cook the peaches, water and sugar on medium/low heat on the stovetop until sugar is dissolved and remove from heat.
  • Remove the baking dish from oven and pour the batter in over the butter then pour the peach mixture over the batter.  Place back in the oven for 25-35 minutes until golden brown.  Serve with your favorite vanilla ice cream and enjoy.

Our wristlets are always a great bag to take to the farmers market. They are sized to hold Apple iPhone 6+ phones with slim cases, money, credit cards, and an ID; they are great when you need a bag but don't want to lug around a giant tote.

Hold all your credit cards in Valere Rene wristlets!
